Blue Ridge Cohousing
Associate and Equity Member Activity Requirements
A meeting in Shadowlake
Village in Blacksburg, VA
Monticello, home of
Thomas Jefferson, in
Charlottesville, VA
During its development phase (prior to moving in) BRC will utilize the
following Associate and Equity Member Activity Requirements (adapted from
Central Austin Cohousing):
• I will attend at least one community meeting and one committee
meeting each month, and I will accept and perform at least one action item
each month.
• If my household cannot fulfill these obligations, I (we) will discuss with
the Activity Coordinator alternate requirements that will meet our needs.
• Fulfilling this commitment serves to maintain active status and my
position in the unit selection seniority hierarchy.
• While I am in active status, I accrue one unit selection credit (for
purposes of unit selection seniority) for each month.
• If more than 31 days pass during which I do not attend any meetings,
accept and perform any action items, and do not discuss alternate
requirements with the Activity Coordinator, I will be considered inactive as of
the day following my last activity.
• I will return to active status when I resume activity.
• During the time that I am in Inactive status, I will not accrue unit
selection credits.
• All special arrangements and exceptions to this agreement will be
documented in writing by the Activity Coordinator.
• There will be two bonus unit credits per household per year. In other
words, a household can do nothing (no meetings and no work) for two
months and still retain house selection seniority.
• The rules are per household rather than per individual
• Existing Associate and Equity members will have their unit selection
priority grandfathered in. In other words, they will have one unit selection
credit per month they have been active in the group thus far. After the activity
requirements are enacted, though, they like everyone else will need to stay
active to continue to receive selection credits
